The last time there was a Stingray on the market was 1963, the venerable split-window classic. The current version is a targa top open roadster with a carbon-fiber roof panel that can be secured in the rear cargo bay. A full convertible version will also be available.

Under the hood is the heart of the 2014 Corvette Stingray, the direct injection 6.2 liter V8 that pumps out 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, with higher output available with the Z51 package.

Given all the power available under your right foot, the mpg is surprisingly good. EPA ratings are 16-17 mpg in the city and 28-29 mpg on the highway. With the 2014 Corvette Stingray you can have fun and be kind to the planet.

While the new Corvette Stingray is unlike anything else on the road, you will pick up on the connections to 60 years of heritage. The aggressive flares and curves evoke the previous Stingray designs, updated for the modern era.

The goal of the interior design was to be authentic. If your eyes tell you it looks like aluminum, it is. If it feels like carbon fiber, it is. Grade-A leather in the cockpit caresses your body, hand crafted in a timeless fashion.

Standard features include the five-mode drive program selector with 12 variables, a seven-speed manual gearbox that matches your revs for smoother shifts. An automatic transmission is also available. Electronic gadgets include two eight-inch control and infotainment screens and keyless start. For entertainment, a nine-speaker Bose audio system with satellite radio and Bluetooth connectivity give you many options.

Lots of track time helped designers tune the interior and chassis for effortless performance. Your passenger will appreciate ergonomic features like the trestle that delineates the driver’s space and serves as a grab handle.

If you’ve always wanted a Corvette, this is the one to get. If you’ve owned Corvettes before, then you’ll recognize this latest model as the best one yet. After 60 years, America’s sports car is the envy of the world
