5 Reasons Your Car Won’t Start

Battery 

When temperatures are very low, older batteries can struggle or fail completely. This is why you may want to take a look at your battery if your car doesn’t start.

If you can, try a jumpstart. If that enables you to start your car, your problem is solved. If your battery is aging (five years or older), we strongly recommend having it replaced.

Fuel Filter 

Your fuel filter’s job is to prevent dirt and other contaminants from getting into your fuel injection system. Eventually, this gets so clogged with debris that gas can’t get through it, preventing your car from starting.

Starter or Ignition Switch 

Both your starter and ignition switch play key roles when it comes to starting your car. If one of these parts isn’t working properly, you won’t be able to go anywhere.

Steering Wheel 

Many cars have an anti-theft feature that involves locking the steering wheel. Even if you’re unaware of this with your vehicle, it’s possible that your steering wheel has been locked, possibly explaining why your car won’t start. Nudging your steering wheel to the left or right as you turn the key should unlock it. 

Gas Tank 

Many people put off getting gas or forgetting about it. The reason for your car not starting could be traced to not having enough gas in your fuel tank. Try a simple fuel-up to see if your engine will kick into gear.
